DMT has completely redesigned the traditional organ bath system using the latest developments in material, computer and tissue engineering. We have replaced the traditional water-based heating system with a very fast air heating system and made the chambers disposable or reusable after cleaning. We added automated control of filling/emptying, washing and gassing by an embedded microprocessor and provided digital and analog output (for external data acquisition) of force and complete computer control of the instrument including the embedded data acquisition.

Applications of the organ bath include: In cardiovascular research; isolated aorta and other artery rings, heart tissue (papillary muscle, left ventricles). In the gastro-intestinal and urogenital systems; preparations of ileum, duodenum and colon. Also gastric antral muscle and sphincter as well as myometrium, uterine, bladder, penile muscle strips and vas defenes. Respiratory effects can be studied in isolated tracheal rings, phrenic diaphragm preparations, pulmonary arterial smooth muscle and even lung parenchyma.
The modular design allows up to four, individually-mounted tissues to be studied simultaneously and independently per system at different programmable force ranges. Moreover, multiple systems can be linked together (USB 2.0 connection) for high throughput screening (HTS) and easily maintained by a single person. The convenient computer controlled, self-contained, compact bench-top design of the DMT's Tissue Organ Bath System - 750TOBS can be placed in any existing laboratory environment.
