The culture myograph system is designed to provide long-term preservation of small blood vessels by maintaining them under controlled culture conditions of intravascular pressure and flow. By utilizing sterile conditions and standard culture methodology, vessels can be studied for several days.

The system not only has an integrated microscope (with a CCD camera) allowing continuous monitoring of the vessel during the culture period. It now also contains built-in heating and two reservoirs. During mounting the fluid height of these reservoirs provides a small pressure needed for cannulation. During the experiment,  these reservoirs are pressurised by a single external pressure unit, their hydraustatic difference allows flow during the experiment.

During culturing, all possible parameters such as lumen, wall thickness, cross sectional area etc. can be acquired via the custom-made acquisition program 'VediView'

The design of the chamber provides easy access to the vessel for cannulation - also the cannulae are easily changed and the glass perti dish-like cover allows appropriate viewing via its submerged center.

 All parts of the chamber unit can easily be disassembled and sterilized by autoclaving. Two inlet/outlet ports are available in addition to the two cannulae ports for insertions of probes or superfusing medias.
